Over the years, my philosophy of teaching physical education has changed as we as a society have changed. The obesity rate in the county is out of control as more and more technology is introduced in our daily lives in my belief. Seeing the students every three or four days does make my job that much more challenging. With that being said, I try to keep the students active and on task as much as possible. I build from the ground up with kindergarten thru second grades as my foundation, then add third thru fifth grades. Skill development plays a huge role in my teaching as does social skills.
Each individual class is a spectrum. The abilities of the students vary on that spectrum. When looking at the spectrum, I try to meet the needs of all the students so they can succeed in physical education. I let the students know it's ok to make mistakes in my class, but they need to correct that mistake so that can get better at the skill or activity we are working on. I have become more patient and understanding of the grade levels that I am working with when it comes to skill and motor development. I have also told myself that I need to research more ideas, games and activities so I do not get burned out as a physical education teacher.
